Cyber Funday

Hey, hey, hey!

I slept in until 7:30 today! It felt so good to get some much-needed rest. I woke with a craving for carbs cereal.

Mom’s best mallow oats topped with mixed berries, 1/2 banana, sunflower nut buttah and organic 2% milk. This bad little bowl kept me full until late afternoon.

A couple of hours after breakfast I hit up a hot Vinyassa yoga class, followed by a free 30 minute meditation class. Did you know you can incorporate meditation anytime throughout the day? It doesn’t have to be all complicated, just a couple of minutes of conscious breathing and a little time to yourself does the body/mind good.

I found a 15% off coupon in my goody bag from the Drumstick Dash to a place called Rag-o-Rama ( a very hip clothing thrift store). I decided to use it today and found a cute flowy blue dress and black leggings for only $18.00 bucks. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!!!

I finally worked up an appetite around 3:00 pm and made myself another pumpkin smoothie.

It’s much like the other one from Saturday except I added the banana to the toppings instead of the base. I also threw in a few pepitas from our Jack O Lantern.

After lunch I took full of advantage of cyber monday and bought FOUR long sleeve organic t-shirts for $12.00!!!

Check out their sale @ threadsforthought.com

We picked out a paint color yesterday, brought home a sample, and applied it to the wall. I think I like it! Maybe the fam and I will do some painting tonight.

Happy Monday

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!

I hope all of you are enjoying time with your family and eating good food.

Thursday morning started out with our annual Drumstick Dash,

a 2.2 mile scenic run through Broad Ripple to benefit The Wheeler Mission. This has to be our fifth or sixth time doing this race. The course can be either 2.2 miles or 4.5 miles depending on what you choose. This year we decided to run the short course with hopes of running the long course next year.

After the race we walked another 1/2 mile to the car, headed home and showered. We had a lovely lunch with friends and family afterwards. Do you prefer an early Thanksgiving dinner or a later Thanksgiving dinner?

I did a little zumba this morning with my sister in-law {Julia} and the Little Apron. Julia is having a second Thanksgiving dinner tonight at her house. I made a homemade pumpkin pie with whipped cream for the occasion.

I purchased a couple extra cans of pumpkin at Whole Foods for only $1.29 each…steal! So I decided to make a pumpkin Pie smoothie.

1 cup pumpkin

5 ice cubes

1/2 cup plain non-fat greek yogurt

1/4 cup almond milk

1/2 small frozen banana

2 dashes pumpkin pie spice

1 dash cinnamon

Blend all the ingredients together and top with granola a nut butter.

I topped mine with a little Kashi pumpkin flax and sunflower nut butter.

It’s a gorgeous day here in Indy! I even have the windows open. Getting some good fall breezes and little bit of sunshine.

Time to do some house cleaning and get ready for tonight.

Have a wonderful Saturday evening.

Thank you for reading!!!!

Happy Easter!

I hope you had a great Easter Sunday no matter how you spent it. My day was filled with family, food and fun.

I ate lots of good food today!

  • Egg omelet with plenty of veg for breakfast.
  • Salads, fresh veg, fruit, and a small plate of dessert for lunch.
  • Purple monster smoothie with a purple jelly bean tossed in for dinner.

Yesterday as I was reading my e-mails I stumbled across the blue mile’s e newsletter. For those of you who don’t live in Indianapolis the blue mile is a store “committed to runners and walker at all levels of fitness”.  They carry everything from shoes and apparel to gadgets and accessories to get you started on walking/running program or keep you motivated. The friendly knowledgeable staff is a big plus as well.  In the newsletter are things like product reviews,

 Soleus 262 100-Lap Watch

and information on their upcoming store events.

What caught my eye the most was this:

[{Easter Sunday Fun at BlueMile in Broad Ripple, Camel and Fishers We’ll be open on Easter Sunday (in these three locations only) with a little Easter egg fun. Pick an egg out of the basket, and you’ll win a prize–including gift cards and merchandise. Our special Easter hours are noon to 5pm in Broad Ripple, Carmel and Fishers.}]

Now let me start out by saying I may be a little too old to hunt for Easter eggs, but ask me to reach into a basket and pull out an egg. Now that I can do.

Before heading home and calling it a day we [Mr. Apron, Little Apron and myself] stopped into the Fishers location to take a look around and see what the Easter bunny had left behind.

I chose the last pink egg and to my surprise I found a mr. Goodbar (peanuts…love) and a note that read:

Happy Easter! Free Socks!

Feetures! light are a multi-sport  performance sock with ultra light cushion and a seamless toe guaranteed to prevent blisters. The other cool thing about these socks are the eco-friendly packaging they come in and the company’s commitment to the National Forest Foundation. A portion of sales for each pair of socks is donated to the NFF.

It just so happens I was in need of a new pair of running socks. I tried them on as soon as I got home and gave them a quick two-mile run.  They felt great and fit like a glove!

Thank you Mr. Easter bunny or should I say the blue mile…wink, wink.

What was your favorite suprise today?

Saturday Goddess

Saturday in review.

Even though I knew I would be working all day Saturday and Sunday I was still excited about the weekend. Saturday came and went, and today has been busy, busy. I have a few quick minutes to post yesterdays meals before getting back to work.

Breakfast: 6:00 A.M

Bagels seem to be making a comeback in my life, don’t worry I’ll be careful. This toasted cinnamon raising bagel held me over from 6:00 in the morning until 12:00 in the afternoon. I don’t know about you but six hours is long time for my stomach to be empty. I’m a girl who likes to eat. I toasted both halves and topped one with 1 tbsp pumpkin cream cheese, and the other with plain cream cheese. Plus one hard-boiled egg for some protein power.

Lunch: 12:00 P.M

Can you believe I assembled this salad at the hospital cafeteria!?

Even though the weekend salad bar is not as bountiful as it during they week they still offer some great options.

Lots of green lettuce you can’t see on the bottom, spring mix, mushrooms, peas, black olives, fresh strawberries, 1/2 cup hummus plopped on top and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. I packed a few things from home too, multi-grain chips, 1/2 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt and this new tea purchased with a coupon from whole foods. I always pack part if not all of my lunch, it’s good way to save calories and money. The tea was so/so, it could have used some sweetness.

Snack: 6:00 P.M

By 6:00pm I was famished and ready to eat anything in sight!

I reached in the lunchbox and pulled out a crisp apple and another new tea. Yerba mate by Holy Mate, holy mate is right. Talk about a quick burst of energy. It has 100% of the caffeine in one cup of coffee without the sudden crash.

Ladies and gentleman this “tea” made me want to do jumping jacks. Note to self: Save for long runs. The burst of energy did not fade or make me feel blah. I was still a little hungry though so I had some

dun dun dun…

you guessed it peanut butter with a graham cracker. Hit the spot.

Dinner: 8:30 P.M

By the time I got home for dinner I wanted something light and heavenly. Even though it was colder than the north pole I made a smoothie anyway. Cause that’s how I roll.

With a few of my faves and couple new guys.

This was the first time trying 365 whey protein. Not sure if I like it or not, I’ll have to get back to you on that one.

Anywho, the smoothie had a creamy consistency and the added crunch from a granola bar was excellent. Since I already consumed 1 tbsp of peanut butter, I added a blob of better n’ peanut butter.

What is better n’ peanut butter you ask? It’s basically PB with half the calories and fat, and to be honest I prefer it over real PB in my smoothies.

After dinner the hubs and I went to a party to celebrate our friends third 29th birthday 🙂

Knowing I wasn’t going to be in the mood for boozing I brought one of these and sipped on it all night. Well until 11:00, then I went home and went to bed, but that’s another story.

I love this Kombucha for its flavor and its name. Cause lets face it we are all goddesses!

Can’t wait to get home this evening and watch…don’t judge…Kourtney and Kim take New York.

Enjoy your Sunday

Maria 🙂

All right

Today turned out to be all right. I enjoyed taking care of my patients and being apart of a great nursing team. Sometimes when things don’t go our way we can take a look around and realize what we have and appreciate it even more.

I left work an hour later than normal and had to run a couple of errands before going home. I stopped at Whole Foods to pick up some Amazing Grass

GreenSuper food.

While I was there I picked up a weekly flyer, full of coupons and dinner ideas. I think I’ll be taking a special trip to Whole Foods tomorrow, time to restock the refrigerator and pantry.

For dinner I made myself a green smoothie.

It was so good. Trust me sometimes a smoothie is better than ice cream.

Green Super Food Smoothie

  • 1 container low-fat vanilla yogurt
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 cup frozen spinach
  • 2 Tbsp Vega shake and go smoothie in Tropical Tango
  • 1/2 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 packet of GreenSuper food in lemon lime

Topped with

  • 1/4 cup apricot granola
  • 1 tbsp better n’ peanut butter

This bowl was full of vitamins and minerals, just what I needed after a long crazy day. I fell better already.

Time to catch up on some blogs, a TV show, and sleep.

Before I go L.a (little apron) wanted me to show you this.

She made it all by herself and was very proud of her culinary creation. She asked if she could take a picture of it, of course I said yes! “I’ll even put on the blog”.
