Nutella blend

I woke up this morning to a cloudy rainy day ūüė¶

Mr. Sunshine where did you go?

I also woke up hungry and decided to have something sweet. Insert: NUTELLA!

Toasted whole wheat english muffin with 1 tbsp of decadent Nutella, 1 tsp raspberry preserves, 1 medium strawberry sliced, 1/2 banana grilled, sprinkle unsweetened coconut, sprinkle of bear naked fit granola. Grilling the banana makes it softer and brings out more of the flavor.

This breakfast was definitely sweet, maybe a little too sweet? I think¬†it was the ¬†raspberry preserves that put it over the top.¬†¬†Had I used strawberry jam I think the flavors would’ve meshed better. Still better than a doughnut without the tummy ache or sugar high.

More fresh market coffee. The Spring Blend puts a little pep in my step!

Todays agenda includes:

  • Athletic Conditioning (helps with speed and agility)
  • Organizing this crazy mess:

I purchased these letter trays at Target yesterday and thought they would make great mail sorters.

  • Lunch date with the little apron
  • A few calls to Einstein bagel and Panera bread ¬†(in search of breakfast donations for an upcoming girl scout trip)

The rest of the day is wide open to make good choices.

On my home from work tonight I immediately noticed something wrong with my car. I pulled over at the nearest gas station,¬†stepped out of the car ¬†and examined the driver’s side tire. What did I find you ask?

A flat tire!

I called the hubs and interrupted his dinner at the China Buffet where he immediately¬†put down his fork¬†to come to¬†my rescue. Well maybe not immediately, I think he made one more trip to the buffet first ūüôā

Anywho,

He replaced the old tire with a spare in a quickness and I was back on the road in no time flat [flat…get it¬†{hee-hee}]. Do you know how to change a tire? Apparently I don’t,¬†and¬†to be honest I¬†really have no desire to learn, is that such a¬†bad thing?

By the time I made it home it was nearing 9:00PM and still hadn’t had dinner. Of course I could have skipped dinner altogether but where’s the fun in that. If I don’t eat a little somethin¬†somethin before bed, I can’t sleep.

I made a one egg burrito with 1/2 cup veggie soup mixed in all tucked into a low-carb tortilla. A side of or regular tortilla chips for comfort rounded out the meal. [Love me some tortilla chips]

And shhh don’t tell I also had a graham cracker with 4 banana slices and 1 tbsp Nutella for dessert.

I watched a little bit of The Jersey Shore (another shhh don’t tell) and decided I should better utilize my time. I turned off the tube and walked into my make shift yoga¬†studio {my most favorite room in the house } and¬†did¬†60 minutes of¬†Power Baptiste yoga with Dave.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow and vacay, but before we can leave I¬†have to:

  • run
  • pack
  • shower
  • eat ?
  • buy a new tire

Crazy for cocoa groats

I had no idea what I wanted for dinner. I worked a long twelve hours, and came home hungry and frrrreeezing. Can you believe it’s only 13 degrees outside, wtf?  I thought about my options and couldn’t decide if I wanted a smoothie, cup of soup, or bowl of cereal.  A smoothie was definitely out of the question, waaaaaaay too cold for tonight.  Savory tomato soup didn’t sound appealing either, and plain cereal sounded…well …just plain.

If I had another empty Nutella jar I totally would have had one of these.

Cereal in a Nutella jar was hands down the best meal I had this week (wed-wed) thus far. Clearly I’ve been thinking about it a lot.

But no, no empty jar to be found so I decided to ‚Äúbelieve in myself,‚ÄĚ take a chance, and do some experimenting in the kitchen.

 What I came up with was a hot cocoa smoothie of sorts.

Yes you heard right, repeat after me: hot cocoa smoothie.

Here’s what you need if you decide to give it a try.

  • ¬ľ cup cooked buckwheat groats
  • ¬Ĺ¬†medium mashed banana
  • ¬Ĺ tsp chia seeds
  • 1 cup of milk (soy, almond, hemp) In this case I think cow‚Äôs milk would taste best but feel free to use whatever you desire.
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder

The chia seeds give the smoothie a nice fluffy tuxture. If you don’t have chia seeds no worries just leave them out.

In a medium pot add the cooked buckwheat groats, mashed banana, chia seeds and milk, allow to boil stirring frequently. Add your favorite chocolate protein powder and continue to mix until well incorporated.

You know what the hot cocoa smoothie reminded me of?

Did you ever eat these as a kid? Probably not the most nutritious breakfast but who cares when your ahem (little). ¬†I’m sure my version is a bit healthier, and of course I amped it up with a few toppings.

  • ¬†1 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp coconut
  • the other half of the banana
  • 1/4 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt
  • 2 tbsp granola

Okay now that you probably think I‚Äôm crazy, it’s off to bed for me. One more day of work.

Chocolate covered cherry oats

I got a little carried away with¬†Friday’s breakfast.

Did you know their’s a whole day dedicated to¬†Nutella?

February 5th, is World Nutella Day!

Once this was brought to my attention I became inspired to have some Nutella with oats and cherries.

In the mix

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup soy milk
  • pinch salt

Topped with

  • 1 heaping tbs¬†Nutella
  • 5 mini nutter butter’s (random)
  • 3 chopped almonds
  • 7 sliced cherries

I packed a pretty basic lunch and ate around noon, sorry no pic.

Friday nights dinner consisted of a little of this and a little of that.

Stoneground crackers a sliced apple and steamed carrots with ginger.

Dessert was a mango smoothie.

  • 1 cup frozen cubed mango
  • 1/2 cup frozen spinach
  • 1/2 cup plain lowfat kefir
  • 1/2 cup soy milk
  • 2 tbs Vega mango tango protein powder
  • 1 tbsp better n peanut butter

Look at the heart in the center of that creamy goodness. I didn’t do that on purpose.

We watched Toy Story 3 and sipped on Pero.

Toy Story 3 was a heart felt story about change, growing up, and the circle of life. I’m so glad I¬†took the time to watch it.¬†Even if you don’t have kids I highly recommend giving it a chance. It won a Golden Globe for¬†Best Animated¬†Feature Film just a couple of weeks ago.

 I think I did a great deal of resting and carb loading to get ready for Saturdays 8:00 AM run in bone chilling 30 degree weather.
