Weight for the turkey

Weight lifting was exactly what I needed! I had a great class using small weights with pilate style moves. I came home with a decent appetite and decided to use some leftover turkey to make a salad plate.

The turkey was warmed with a small dash of yellow curry sauce. I added some dressing croutons and a few slices of pineapple. The flavors worked really well together. I even went back for a little more.

Lunch was not complete without a little somthin, somethin. This would be the other half of my breakfast coffee cake with a dollop of light whipped cream. Totally hit the spot!

Off to run some errands and find some treasures.

Pumpkin pie smoothie

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!

I hope all of you are enjoying time with your family and eating good food.

Thursday morning started out with our annual Drumstick Dash,

a 2.2 mile scenic run through Broad Ripple to benefit The Wheeler Mission. This has to be our fifth or sixth time doing this race. The course can be either 2.2 miles or 4.5 miles depending on what you choose. This year we decided to run the short course with hopes of running the long course next year.

After the race we walked another 1/2 mile to the car, headed home and showered. We had a lovely lunch with friends and family afterwards. Do you prefer an early Thanksgiving dinner or a later Thanksgiving dinner?

I did a little zumba this morning with my sister in-law {Julia} and the Little Apron. Julia is having a second Thanksgiving dinner tonight at her house. I made a homemade pumpkin pie with whipped cream for the occasion.

I purchased a couple extra cans of pumpkin at Whole Foods for only $1.29 each…steal! So I decided to make a pumpkin Pie smoothie.

1 cup pumpkin

5 ice cubes

1/2 cup plain non-fat greek yogurt

1/4 cup almond milk

1/2 small frozen banana

2 dashes pumpkin pie spice

1 dash cinnamon

Blend all the ingredients together and top with granola a nut butter.

I topped mine with a little Kashi pumpkin flax and sunflower nut butter.

It’s a gorgeous day here in Indy! I even have the windows open. Getting some good fall breezes and little bit of sunshine.

Time to do some house cleaning and get ready for tonight.

Have a wonderful Saturday evening.

Thank you for reading!!!!

Pretty powerful

If you had to choose one word to describe what makes you powerful, what would it be?

Family?

Friendship?

Strength?

I am Strong because being strong means to be physically, mentally, and spiritually fit. I try to live a balanced life through yoga, kindness and inspiring others to do the same. Encouraging play time like my Birthday 5K is just one example. If I can help at least one person everyday than I know I’m doing my job.

Nutella blend

I woke up this morning to a cloudy rainy day 😦

Mr. Sunshine where did you go?

I also woke up hungry and decided to have something sweet. Insert: NUTELLA!

Toasted whole wheat english muffin with 1 tbsp of decadent Nutella, 1 tsp raspberry preserves, 1 medium strawberry sliced, 1/2 banana grilled, sprinkle unsweetened coconut, sprinkle of bear naked fit granola. Grilling the banana makes it softer and brings out more of the flavor.

This breakfast was definitely sweet, maybe a little too sweet? I think it was the  raspberry preserves that put it over the top.  Had I used strawberry jam I think the flavors would’ve meshed better. Still better than a doughnut without the tummy ache or sugar high.

More fresh market coffee. The Spring Blend puts a little pep in my step!

Todays agenda includes:

  • Athletic Conditioning (helps with speed and agility)
  • Organizing this crazy mess:

I purchased these letter trays at Target yesterday and thought they would make great mail sorters.

  • Lunch date with the little apron
  • A few calls to Einstein bagel and Panera bread  (in search of breakfast donations for an upcoming girl scout trip)

The rest of the day is wide open to make good choices.

Have you ever heard of Deepak Chopra? I’m almost finished with his book The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga.

May good Karma be with you today!

Portions are as big as they appear

Hey!

I can’t believe it’s been over a month since my last post. March came and went in the blink of an eye. Now that spring a sprung I have the sudden urge to pick up where I left off.

My favorite and most memorable lunch during March was at the famous Shapiro’s delicatessen.

Let me just start out by saying it’s very hard to order a healthy meal at a deli/cafeteria when there are so many heavy decadent options to choose from. I knew going in ahead of time I wanted the lox (smoked salmon), but not the usual bagel that comes with. After reading the chalkboard style menu and realizing Shapiro’s makes their “own rye”, my mind was made up.

“I’ll have the lox on rye with light cream cheese, please”.

Here’s what the guy behind the counter says to me “Miss, everything here comes in one size”. Meaning. No we do not have light cream cheese.

My plate…but first a WARNING: OBJECT ARE AS BIG AS THEY APPEAR!

Would the light cream cheese have really made a difference anyway, what’s a few extra calories?

My new plate…

One piece of rye bread (very good), about half the salmon and half the toppings. The rest of the goodness went into a to go box and was enjoyed the next day for lunch. The lettuce you see under the sandwich was just enough to make an impromptu salad. After roughly chopping the lettuce I added some of the tomato, onion and a drizzle of fresh squeezed lemon.

I shared a few pieces of fruit with the hubs and called it a day.

What’s your favorite deli sandwich?

Confessions of a runner part III

I often forget how old I am.

Case in point, take yesterday’s post.

I got so excited about this upcoming weekend and our trip to Gatlinburg, TN to celebrate Aunt T’s 30th. I accidentally referred to this picture of  her and I, as a celebration of my 30th B-day. After thinking about it on my way to the gym, I realized the pic was actually taken on my 31st birthday this past July.

If you ask me for my age, I may or may not stop to think about.

Age is really just a number anyway, right!?

pizza love

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day! Yesterday during heart opening my yoga instructor said, “We need to be our own Valentine’s”. In other words we need to take care and love ourselves first and foremost. This enables us to out into the world and share our love with others.

Remember holidays are about family, sharing and indulging just a little bit. If you had a chocolate truffle or two, some wine, or a slice of dessert pizza like me,

you may feel a little guilty DON’T.

Today is a new day. Don’t look back. Move forward.

Today’s agenda:

  • athletic conditioning
  • doctor’s appointment
  • organize bathroom
  • balance checkbook

Have a great day

P.S.

Don’t forget about TFA’s First Giveaway. What’s your favorite nail polish color? Make sure to comment here.

xoxo

Cereal in a Nutella jar

Breakfast this morning was cereal in a jar (CIAJ). Not just any jar, a Nutella jar.

Remnants of hazelnut goodness, about 1 tbsp.

No worries I have more for  later.

I managed to squeeze 1/2 cup wheat-fuls, 1/4 cup granola, 1/2 banana, 1 tsp chia seeds and 1 cup almond milk into the jar.

This was exactly what I needed to start the weekend out right. I woke feeling a little under the weather, with a sore throat and stuffy head. Hopefully I can kick it before the big Superbowl Party tomorrow.

Right now I’m determined to battle the snow and head to the gym to take a Turbo Kick class, and then do a minute treadmill run. I miss group fitness and seeing all the wonderful people. Have a great Saturday!

For your enjoyment Pumpkin Nutella Muffins.
