Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

After working inside all day for 12 hours I decided a nice cold walk was just what I needed. It felt so refreshing to breath in the cool crisp autumn air. Now I’m not one to enjoy snow or even cold weather for that matter but today was different. I think I’ll try to go on more walks this winter even if it a bit chilly outside.

Tonight’s dinner was one of my cold weather, after work staples.

Low-sodium tomato soup with the addition of spinach, veggie sausage, red pepper flakes and nutritional yeast. A few pita chips from Trader Joe’s rounded out the meal. So simple yet so delicious.

Getting ready for bed with a little light reading (Laura Ingals Wilder’s Little House part 1). I’m determined to read all of the Little House books and the Harry Potter collection before 2013.

Cyber Funday

Hey, hey, hey!

I slept in until 7:30 today! It felt so good to get some much-needed rest. I woke with a craving for carbs cereal.

Mom’s best mallow oats topped with mixed berries, 1/2 banana, sunflower nut buttah and organic 2% milk. This bad little bowl kept me full until late afternoon.

A couple of hours after breakfast I hit up a hot Vinyassa yoga class, followed by a free 30 minute meditation class. Did you know you can incorporate meditation anytime throughout the day? It doesn’t have to be all complicated, just a couple of minutes of conscious breathing and a little time to yourself does the body/mind good.

I found a 15% off coupon in my goody bag from the Drumstick Dash to a place called Rag-o-Rama ( a very hip clothing thrift store). I decided to use it today and found a cute flowy blue dress and black leggings for only $18.00 bucks. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!!!

I finally worked up an appetite around 3:00 pm and made myself another pumpkin smoothie.

It’s much like the other one from Saturday except I added the banana to the toppings instead of the base. I also threw in a few pepitas from our Jack O Lantern.

After lunch I took full of advantage of cyber monday and bought FOUR long sleeve organic t-shirts for $12.00!!!

We picked out a paint color yesterday, brought home a sample, and applied it to the wall. I think I like it! Maybe the fam and I will do some painting tonight.

Weight for the turkey

Weight lifting was exactly what I needed! I had a great class using small weights with pilate style moves. I came home with a decent appetite and decided to use some leftover turkey to make a salad plate.


The turkey was warmed with a small dash of yellow curry sauce. I added some dressing croutons and a few slices of pineapple. The flavors worked really well together. I even went back for a little more.

Lunch was not complete without a little somthin, somethin. This would be the other half of my breakfast coffee cake with a dollop of light whipped cream. Totally hit the spot!

Off to run some errands and find some treasures.

The day after

It’s a little cold and rainy here today but I wanted a cold smoothie anyway. The addition of ice makes me feel like I’m getting a little extra hydration. Which I definitely needed after two glasses of vino last night. I’m quite the wimp when it comes to wine, it makes my hands swell and makes me sleepy (boo). I wonder if organic wine would be better for me? Has anyone tried Three Wishes wines from Whole Foods? It’s only $2.97 per bottle! I might pick some up next week and give it a review.

Anywho, last night’s dinner was good but I’m so ready to eat my normal meals.

Todays smoothie was a simple berry/spinach blend.

1/2 cup mixed berries

1/2 cups spinach

1/4 cup non-fat greek yogurt

1/2 cup almond milk

and 3 ice cubes. All blended together, and topped with a small slice of berry coffee cake and 1 tbsp of better n peanut butter.

Excited to spend the day with the fam picking out paint colors for our dining room and doing a little Goodwill shopping. I just finished the book Sara Snow’s Fresh Living: The Essential Room-by-Room Guide to a Greener, Healthier Family and Home. She has great tips for the beginner to the novice greenie on everything from paint, to cleaning products to furniture.

But first I have a workout date with my Aunt Caren at her gym, time to lift some weights.

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!

I hope all of you are enjoying time with your family and eating good food.

Thursday morning started out with our annual Drumstick Dash,

a 2.2 mile scenic run through Broad Ripple to benefit The Wheeler Mission. This has to be our fifth or sixth time doing this race. The course can be either 2.2 miles or 4.5 miles depending on what you choose. This year we decided to run the short course with hopes of running the long course next year.

After the race we walked another 1/2 mile to the car, headed home and showered. We had a lovely lunch with friends and family afterwards. Do you prefer an early Thanksgiving dinner or a later Thanksgiving dinner?

I did a little zumba this morning with my sister in-law {Julia} and the Little Apron. Julia is having a second Thanksgiving dinner tonight at her house. I made a homemade pumpkin pie with whipped cream for the occasion.

I purchased a couple extra cans of pumpkin at Whole Foods for only $1.29 each…steal! So I decided to make a pumpkin Pie smoothie.

1 cup pumpkin

5 ice cubes

1/2 cup plain non-fat greek yogurt

1/4 cup almond milk

1/2 small frozen banana

2 dashes pumpkin pie spice

1 dash cinnamon

Blend all the ingredients together and top with granola a nut butter.

I topped mine with a little Kashi pumpkin flax and sunflower nut butter.

It’s a gorgeous day here in Indy! I even have the windows open. Getting some good fall breezes and little bit of sunshine.

Time to do some house cleaning and get ready for tonight.
